In the mid 90s, Gina (Kim Basinger) is a wife and a mother of four who lives in Texas town near the border of Mexico. Gina manages to carry out an affair with a local man named Nick Martinez (Joaquim de Almeida). Nick too has a family of his own but unknown to them, Nick's teenage son, Santiago (J. D. Pardo) as well Gina's young daughter, Mariana (Jennifer Lawrence) find out about their love affair. The two teenagers decide to have a love relationship of their own. However, when the young couple's romance is unveiled, Mariana believes that their parents affair should be exposed too. Later, when Gina is making love with Nick in a trailer, Mariana sets the trailer on fire in the hope that the two love birds will get out of the trailer but unfortunately, the flames causes an explosion which claim the lives of both Gina & Nick. The story unfolds further when Mariana escapes to Portland, Oregon and at the same times assumes a new name as Sylvia (Charlize Theron) so as to avoid being detected for her crime. She must now find inner peace in order to get her life back.
