Seemingly typical teenager Dawn Cottrell (Kimberlee Peterson) deals with her anxieties about school, friends and her dysfunctional family in a very dangerous way: Instead of crying whenever she's upset, Dawn cuts her arms until they bleed. Sean Young stars as Dawn's self-involved mother, and Rhea Perlman offers a stirring performance as the caring therapist who attempts to guide Dawn down the road to recovery.
